AI Thread Summary
Virtual desktops in Windows typically display one desktop at a time, unlike some Linux environments that allow viewing multiple desktops simultaneously. Users are seeking software that enables the simultaneous display of multiple virtual desktops on a single monitor, akin to Picture in Picture mode. Currently, VirtualWin is being used, but there is interest in finding free alternatives. Compiz on Linux offers a feature to view all desktops at once, allowing for easy file and application management across desktops. MS Virtual PC has been mentioned as a resource-intensive option for running multiple instances of Windows for testing purposes.

Hi,

I don't know how many of you have played around with virtual desktops either in Linux or Windows environments. I realize that most virtual desktop software for Windows displays only one desktop on the monitor at a time.

I am wondering whether or not it's possible to get one or multiple virtual desktops within a main desktop, so I can see both desktops at the same time. Kind of like Picture in Picture mode on TVs, except on a computer.

If so, is there a free software I can download? So far I am using VirtualWin.

Thanks.

In Linux compiz, there is an option to view all desktops at once. Although they were zoomed out a little bit, but you could drag files, icons, or opened apps from one to another.

Thanks, but I'd like to do this in a Windows environment.

This week, I saw a documentary done by the French called Les sacrifiés de l'IA, which was presented by a Canadian show Enquête. If you understand French I recommend it. Very eye-opening. I found a similar documentary in English called The Human Cost of AI: Data workers in the Global South. There is also an interview with Milagros Miceli (appearing in both documentaries) on Youtube: I also found a powerpoint presentation by the economist Uma Rani (appearing in the French documentary), AI...
