Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the warp drive research conducted by Prof David Pares, focusing on the feasibility and credibility of his variable electromagnetic drive (VEM Drive) concept. Participants express their opinions on the potential for funding and the scientific validity of the research.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested, Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants express excitement about the potential of warp drive research, suggesting that funding should be allocated to explore its possibilities.
  • Others challenge the credibility of Prof Pares' research, citing his background in geography and meteorology as a reason for skepticism regarding his ability to secure funding for such advanced concepts.
  • A participant mentions that the claims made about the VEM Drive compressing the fabric of space are implausible, indicating a lack of confidence in the scientific basis of the research.
  • There is a suggestion that the research may be influenced by popular culture, specifically referencing Star Trek, which some participants believe detracts from its scientific legitimacy.
  • One participant notes that the research team failed to secure funding through crowdfunding platforms, which they interpret as a sign of its lack of viability.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally disagree on the validity and potential of Prof Pares' warp drive research, with some supporting the exploration of the concept while others dismiss it as nonsensical.

Contextual Notes

Participants express varying levels of expertise in general relativity, which may influence their assessments of the claims made about the warp drive. There is also a noted lack of detailed understanding of the research methodology and theoretical foundations.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals interested in speculative physics, advanced propulsion concepts, and the intersection of science and popular culture may find this discussion relevant.

Hello, wanted thoughts of Prof David Pares warp drive research. I think it's exciting, even if it doesn't work, I'd like funding to go towards it to explore if it can work, here is his website

A geography professor that teaches meteorology won't get real funding to make warp drive. Try again Prof, stay in your lane.

OTOH, maybe he can start a meme coin or something?

BTW, sorry, I didn't read the link beyond this:
"After years of research and experimentation, we have developed a variable electromagnetic drive (VEM Drive) that can compress the fabric of space which creates a warp field."

I'm not remotely close to being a GR expert, but even I know this is complete BS.

I think they have been watching too much Star Trek, and have lost touch with reality. They failed to get funding through indiegogo.

It would be a lot more exciting if it were not total nonsense (Sorry, but you did ask for our thoughts, and that's what they are). This thread is closed.
