AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the causes of magnetism, specifically how moving charges create magnetic fields. It highlights that the scientific understanding of the exact mechanisms behind this phenomenon remains incomplete. One explanation involves the concept of frames of reference, where a magnetic field in one frame can be perceived as an electric field in another. Despite this explanation, some participants express confusion about the underlying principles. Overall, the complexities of magnetism and its relation to electric fields continue to challenge comprehension.

In classical E&M moving charges create B fields.

what happens in the motion of charges that magnetic fields are created?

I was using the Smith chart to determine the input impedance of a transmission line that has a reflection from the load. One can do this if one knows the characteristic impedance Zo, the degree of mismatch of the load ZL and the length of the transmission line in wavelengths. However, my question is: Consider the input impedance of a wave which appears back at the source after reflection from the load and has traveled for some fraction of a wavelength. The impedance of this wave as it...
