Discussion Overview

The discussion centers on the mechanical properties of stranded steel cable, specifically seeking information about yield strength corresponding to various diameters and strand arrangements. Participants inquire about the necessity of referring to the ASTM A1023 standard for this data.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation, Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant requests a table detailing the mechanical properties of stranded steel cable, including yield strength for specific diameters and strand arrangements.
  • Another participant suggests checking with the cable manufacturer for the required data.
  • A third participant provides a link to a Google search for wire rope specifications as a potential resource.
  • A later reply expresses appreciation for the provided links.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the best source for the mechanical properties, with differing suggestions on how to obtain the information.

Contextual Notes

The discussion does not clarify the completeness or accuracy of the suggested resources, nor does it address any specific limitations of the ASTM A1023 standard.

Hi,

I´m looking for a table for stranded steel cable mechanical properties where I could find for a particular diameter of cable (and possibly strand arrangement) which is the corresponding yield strengh.

Or do I necessarily have to go for ASTM A1023 standard to get this data?

Thanks.

I'd check with the manufacturer of the cable.
