How to become a better pole vaulter, what are the physics of it?
The discussion revolves around the physics of pole vaulting and how it relates to improving performance in the sport. Participants explore the balance between understanding the physics involved and the practical aspects of training and execution.
Participants express differing views on the importance of understanding the physics of pole vaulting versus the need for practical training and mental focus during performance. No consensus is reached on the best approach.
Some assumptions about the relationship between physics understanding and athletic performance remain unexamined. The discussion does not resolve how much physics knowledge is beneficial versus detrimental in practice.
Athletes interested in pole vaulting, coaches, and those studying the intersection of physics and sports performance may find this discussion relevant.

In any sport requiring athletic precision you must be "In The Zone" to do well. People call it muscle memory, the unconscious, etc etc, but you need to get your conscious analysis out of the way of your training. As soon as you "consciously think about it", you lose it (short circuit the training). Musicians face the same fate if they start "trying" rather than doing.DiracPool said:I do my best when I relax and just focus on hitting the green or hitting the hole.
