Studying What are the prerequisites before studying biophysics textbooks?

AI Thread Summary
To prepare for studying biophysics, a foundational understanding of key biology and chemistry concepts is essential. Recommended topics in biology include cell structure and function, molecular biology, and basic genetics, as these areas provide insight into the biological systems that biophysics examines. In chemistry, a grasp of general chemistry principles, including chemical bonding, thermodynamics, and kinetics, is crucial, along with an introduction to organic chemistry to understand biomolecules. Reviewing course outlines from introductory biophysics programs at universities can offer valuable guidance on prerequisite knowledge and help identify specific areas to focus on before diving into biophysics literature.

I'm interested in biophysics but I don't know much biology or chemistry to begin with, yet I know a good bit of math and physics. What topics in biology and chemistry should I cover before reading a book on biophysics?

Maybe look at the course outlines for introductory biophys courses at a few universities and see what the prerequisite requirements are.

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
