What are the top simulation techniques for semiconductor devices?

I just joined, to discuss some issues on simulation of semiconductor devices. I am actually a materials scientist turned into physicist and presently working on compound semiconductor device simulation using SILVACO TCAD commercial simulator. I will be soon posing my queries on a separate thread: on simulation of Metal-semiconductor junctions using SILVACO TCAD.
