Discussion Overview

The discussion centers on the visibility of different colors of light at varying distances, specifically focusing on which color of visible light can be seen from the farthest distance and the factors influencing this perception.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant asks which visible light frequency can be seen from the greatest distance and why.
  • Another participant notes that the answer depends on the observer, as different sensors have varying sensitivities to light frequencies.
  • One participant claims that yellow is the most visible color due to human eye sensitivity.
  • A later reply corrects this by stating that human eye sensitivity peaks in the green range, around 550 nm.
  • Another participant adds that some individuals perceive 550 nm as a mix of greenish yellow and yellowish green.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on which color is most visible, with some asserting yellow while others point to green as the peak sensitivity. The discussion remains unresolved regarding a definitive answer.

Contextual Notes

There are limitations related to the definitions of color perception and the variability in individual sensitivity to different light frequencies.

Welcome to PF, U2_wa.
The answer to your question is primarily dependent upon who or what is doing the observing. Different sensors have different ranges of sensitivity to various frequencies.

Yellow. I believe that's the human eyes' most sensitivity to "color"

Human eye sensitivity is actually peaked in the green, ~550nm.

Thanks. I learn something new each day, especially here at PF!

Some people perceive 550 nm as a greenish yellow/yellowish green.
