What is meant by rate of change of accelration? how to measure it

AI Thread Summary
The rate of change of acceleration, known as "jerk," can be calculated by measuring the applied force on an object and dividing it by the object's mass. To determine jerk, one needs to assess the change in acceleration over a specific time period. An accelerometer can be used to measure acceleration, and from that data, jerk can be derived. This measurement process assumes negligible effects from air resistance and friction. Understanding jerk is crucial for applications involving dynamic conditions, such as machine tools, where continuous changes in acceleration are necessary.

my doubt is what is meant by rate of change of acceleration? how can i measure it in dyanmic condition? if it realated to machene tools, the movement of the slides acceleration has to be changed continuosly for different application . how we can measure it

The most direct way to calculate rate of change of acceleration (also known as "jerk")
is if you can measure the applied force on an object. The acceleration of the object will be the force divided by the mass (not weight, but mass) of the object.

The change in acceleration will be the change in force divided by the mass.

The rate of change of acceleration will be the change in acceleration divided by the time it took to make that change.

Edit: This process assumes that air resistance and friction are not a significant factor.

clear definition about jerk. want more infromation related to term called jerk

dear sir,

i want to know more about jerk only. please explai a bit

one of my friend mentioned in the front page itself that it can be measeured by usring accelorometer. how it exactly. works. i am not worried about plotting the results .but my thinking is how we can measure rate of cahnge of acceleration. just like speed is measeure by using speedometer. current by ammeter like that is there is any instrument to meausre jerk

thanking u

Thread 'Question about pressure of a liquid'
I am looking at pressure in liquids and I am testing my idea. The vertical tube is 100m, the contraption is filled with water. The vertical tube is very thin(maybe 1mm^2 cross section). The area of the base is ~100m^2. Will he top half be launched in the air if suddenly it cracked?- assuming its light enough. I want to test my idea that if I had a thin long ruber tube that I lifted up, then the pressure at "red lines" will be high and that the $force = pressure * area$ would be massive...
I feel it should be solvable we just need to find a perfect pattern, and there will be a general pattern since the forces acting are based on a single function, so..... you can't actually say it is unsolvable right? Cause imaging 3 bodies actually existed somwhere in this universe then nature isn't gonna wait till we predict it! And yea I have checked in many places that tiny changes cause large changes so it becomes chaos........ but still I just can't accept that it is impossible to solve...
