What is the Importance of Scientific Education in Understanding Science?

As instructed, I'm starting this thread to tell anyone who's interested that I'm here. I have little formal scientific education, just freshman physics, but I've been reading Scientific American for 40 years so I'm not entirely ignorant.

Hello fellow Physics enthusiasts, I am an aeronautical engineering graduate (Bachelor's) who is interested in Physics and Mathematics, and I have been re-learning all the basics.
