There is a notable critique of the current state of network television, with some participants claiming that most shows are inherently silly or poorly executed. You're forgetting family guy!
No, I'm kidding of course, but seriously dude you managed to list basically all the shows out there at present.

King of the Hill. omg that show... omg...

Deal or No Deal. A game show that is so lame it doesn't even bother to have a theme.

The view. And for sure, Lost. But Hell's kitchen? Imo that's significantly less stupid than most other shows you listed Cronxeh.

I love Hell's Kitchen! Math Is Hard and I are anticipating Gordon will have a stroke.

Has anyone seen Maury with Maury Povich? His show makes Jerry Springer look like an intellectual gathering.

omg, It comes on after a show* I do watch and I can't watch more than 5 seconds of it.

*my guilty secret: I watch court shows. Yes, the people are redneck deadbeats, I don't care about the people, I like the cases.

You leave Gossip Girl alone!

Monster Quest is the only one at the moment that really makes me angry

The bachelor, and alike programs, just plain stupid

Will and Grace.

He's gay, so is the other, she's neurotic and she's a drunk. We get it. Those in themselves are not humour, so either include some jokes or drop the laugh track.

  • #11
I haven't ever watched a 'reality' show---they're for the brainless...

I also can't believe how many 'after they're dead' shows are on now

Haven't watched it in a long time but both Karen and Jack were good for a laugh.

Yeah, they're all the rage.

I am forced to watch Drop Dead Diva, but it is completely lame.

Gee, a fat girl who can't resist junk food. How 21st century...

At the risk of stating the obvious, you have watched enough of those shows to be able to pass judgment on them.

Of most of the shows you mention, I have seen even less of them than you - so little that I cannot even judge them.

I watched them because I keep my horizons open. Currently I only watch the following shows:

NCIS, Family Guy, Simpsons, Twilight Zone, Burn Notice, Fringe, House, Psych, White Collar, Leverage, and News.

"Lost" is just an absolute disaster of a show. The first season was really good, but it's unwatchable now.

  • #19
I don't know how many shows are stupid, because I can't stand to watch much of anything on network TV and therefor cannot judge their relative stupidness. I watch local and national news, News Hour, Antiques Road Show, and Nova. That's about it.

About the only TV show I watched regularly was Babylon 5.

Is "Babylon 5" still around? I last saw it several years ago, but then I haven't seen the Sci-Fi channel in a long, long time. I stopped looking when they started carrying a lot of grade B horror flicks (except for B. Gallactica).

It's the SyFY channel now, apparently their viewer's didn't know what Sci-Fi meant or how to pronounce it.

I wish. Well, the part about them changing to SyFy is true, I am just guessing at the reason. I can just see someone asking what the skeefee channel was.

You can get the whole series on DVD, if you don't have a cable channel that carries it.

now its the syf channel (for an even shorter name)

Family Guy, The Cleveland show, all of the news shows on the news channels because the "news" is pretty much redundant and the newshost are about as objective at covering news as all the political right wing oriented talk show hosts. And all of the reality shows that advertised themselves as providing fresh and original content to their viewers, but all seem to rip off each other. All the television channels that formerly played documentaries but have content on their channel that have nothing to do with the original intent of channel (i.e., TLC, History channel, disco\very channel) and so all the shows are all about competition; I don't have a probably with the any of the daytime "trailer trash" because at least that they are not trying advertised themselves anything other than what they are.

It may have been done to get the name down to four characters. That way their name doesn't get truncated in commercial listings.

most stupid show is CSI

There are a whole bunch that are basically the same thing...
The World's Biggest Man
The World's Biggest Teen

I can't even remember the name of the series...Big Medicine or something like that.

Basically, every single one of them is finding someone so morbidly obese that they can't even get out of their own bed, yet somehow food keeps getting from stores to their mouths (that's the part I cannot understand...once someone has become bedridden with obesity, until they can get themself back out of that bed again, there is no excuse for anyone else to enable them in their horrendous eating habits), nobody can understand how they got so fat, and they're going to get gastric bypass surgery.

I flip up through the cable channels about once a week just to keep in touch with how nutz the world really is. Keeping Up With The Kardashians was a surprise. I can't believe Bruce Jenner would stoop that low.

There are a number of completely tacky scripted and staged reality shows, especially on MTV. Speaking of tacky, Jersey Shore comes to mind.

Excuse me I have to go watch The Bachelor now.

She was blonde in the book. That was one of her main features, her extremely long blond hair that couldn't be cut.

From the few episodes I watched they messed up on Legend of the Seeker quite a bit. It also reminded me too much of Hercules and Xena.

Absolute worst show I can think of is one I have only listened to as my friend watched it on his laptop... True Blood. Ridiculously horrible. Like a cross between Buffy and one of those crappy new shows like Weeds or Desperate Housewives.
The rest of you lose. I promise.

Whale wars.

Well the show itself is awesome to watch, just to see the SS get owned. But the people in it are so incredibly stupid it makes it hard to watch.

Wow! Finally I saw someone who thinks Lost is stupid!:approve:
Everyone I know is so interested in Lost but I've not watched it yet.

So is/was there any TV show that you don't find it stupid? Just curious:blushing:

Most shows are pretty stupid, but that's always been the case. Everybody says reality tv is stupid, but then they watch a show about people on a mysterious magical island with a smoke monster, whatever that is (they also watch reality tv). And they think it's "deep" or something.

The Simpsons is garbage now, The Office got pretty dumb, and Arrested Development was canceled. The new Dr. Who was pretty good, but I haven't seen it lately. Nobody mentioned Sportscenter, but is it even possible to repeat the same plays and overly dramatic storylines any more than they do? I wouldn't be surprised if I turned it on and saw Jordan's "last shot" still being replayed endlessly.

But there are some stupid shows that are fully aware of their trashy status and just become good. Married With Children and Jerry Springer come to mind. Unbelievably trashy, but at least they didn't take themselves too seriously.

I recently found out that one of the Real Wives or Orange County, or whatever the name, is my cousin's neighbor. I've seen about five minutes of the show a few times but couldn't take any more. Cuz says the woman is absolutely looney. She also said the woman is the same in real life as she is on tv. It is not a puton.

Another absurd reality show that I saw advertised is Conviction Kitchen, or something like that. The premise is that convicts are used as chefs. Cripes. Who watches this stuff?

I was going to say: "Any show that was not 'Arrested Development'," but it just seemed too obvious.

I really don't have time for TV at all.

I am going to find out how LOST turns out, but I'll wait until it's done, and stream the last two or three shows.

I really need to know if they actually had a plan, or if they were starting to make it up as they go along. It's my theory that they had some paid staffers who's job it was to guess where the plot was going, and when they made their guesses, the writers deliberately F'ed up the plot some more. There are so many loose ends right now, that either the whole thing is going to be the most egregious deus ex machina cop-out ending, or the single most brilliant plot twister ever created.

I want to see "Real Engineers" followed by "Real Scientists". They could do 'real experiments' with 'real stuff' and be 'really cool'.

The highlight of the season could be BobG and his amazing collection of slide rules!

Maybe we could do "Real Teachers", or even better "Real High School Science Teachers".

Lost lost me after the first season, I missed some of the second season and when I tuned in suddenly there were buildings and weird people and they had all kinds of things that seemed to have appeared by magic and I knew at that point I would never be able to get back into it again. Too bad because the first season was tolerable.

If you've watched the whole thing, maybe you could write a season by season progression of what happened.

Aside from cooking shows, I am hooked on the History Channel's new show American Pickers about two guys that drive around looking for people that have tons of old junk in their yards and try to find and buy things they can resell. I thought, wow, what a dumb idea for a show, but I love it, the memorabilia and the history behind the things is really interesting. It's followed by another show I'm hooked on Pawn Stars about a pawn shop in Las Vegas, again very interesting historical facts and these people are just loveable. An upscale, honest, pawn shop with a love of history. I want to work there.
