Other Which Springer books to buy? (QM, GR and statistical mechanics)

AI Thread Summary
Springer books are currently on sale, prompting an undergraduate student in Europe to seek recommendations for textbooks in quantum mechanics (QM), general relativity (GR), and statistical mechanics. Several specific titles are suggested, including links to books that cover these subjects comprehensively. Notably, Walter Greiner's works are highlighted as valuable resources, although many are now only available in e-book format due to discontinuation of print editions by Springer. The discussion emphasizes the importance of selecting quality textbooks to support academic studies and future career aspirations in physics.

Hello, Springer books are on sale this week so I wanted to buy some textbooks to support my studies and (eventual) future career.
I'm an undergrad (in europe) and my courses next year will be QM, GR and statistical mechanics, so I was looking for books about these topics, but any suggestion on what to buy would be very welcome, thank you!

I recommend also the books by Walter Greiner:
Unfortunately, most Greiner books are e-books only these days. I do not know why Springer has discontinued them. I really enjoyed his Quantum mechanics field theory and Quantum mechanics symmetries books.

Can still be bought used for a decent penny.

Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
I’ve heard that in some countries (for example, Argentina), the curriculum is structured differently from the typical American program. In the U.S., students usually take a general physics course first, then move on to a textbook like Griffiths, and only encounter Jackson at the graduate level. In contrast, in those countries students go through a general physics course (such as Resnick-Halliday) and then proceed directly to Jackson. If the slower, more gradual approach is considered...
