Why does the movement of electrons create fields?

It may be a good idea to approach Electromagnetism in the same way as the Science started off. It dealt with Charges and Fields and assumed they are continuous. Forget about electrons in this context; Maxwell's Equations (well before electrons were discovered) deliver the right answers until you get way down the line into relativity. The effect of Fields on moving Charges is straightforward to calculate. But there is one little awkwardness that can arise to do with interactions, namely the question: which is charge and which produces the field? Coulombs law uses the idea of point charges and the mutual force. Does the Earth pull the Moon or does the Moon pull the Earth (same question with a different context).

That's a 'very healthy' way of putting it. People often want to imply 'that's the real explanation" but often many models lead to the same experimental prediction. The nice thing about the Lorentz explanation is that it seems to catch the fancy of a lot of students as it uses an unexpected link to what is often regarded as a different part of Physics. Two loose ends now tied together.
