SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on the physical working principle of Split Ring Resonators (SRRs) and their role in achieving negative permeability at a macro level. Participants seek a deeper understanding of the underlying physics, including the formation of capacitance, current flow, and electric fields within SRRs. Key resources shared include a Wikipedia article and two academic papers that provide insights into the atomic magnetic model and the function of splits in SRRs. The conversation emphasizes the need for a comprehensive explanation beyond basic structural characteristics.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of electromagnetic theory
  • Familiarity with resonant structures in physics
  • Knowledge of negative permeability concepts
  • Basic principles of capacitance and electric fields
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the physics of electromagnetic resonance in Split Ring Resonators
  • Explore the implications of negative permeability in metamaterials
  • Investigate the role of capacitance in resonant circuits
  • Review the academic papers linked in the discussion for advanced insights
USEFUL FOR

Researchers, physicists, and engineers interested in electromagnetic materials, particularly those working with metamaterials and resonant structures.

What is the physical working principle of SRR's ?
How do they result in the negative permeability at a macro level?
(either of explanation or decent links will do!)

Thanks

i have gone through this. what i was looking for is the actual physics supporting the functioning of the srr. wiki merely states its structure and characteristics.

how is it equivalent to an atomic (magnetic) model and what actually causes the negative permeability within the given freq range?

where exactly does the capacitance form and what role does it play?

how exactly, is the current flow/elec fields within etc.?

That would be a lot technical.

May be this is what you are looking for:

Does this help ?

What is the function of the splits on each ring in SRR's ?

The precise idea of that is given in the Wikipedia article in the introduction part. Read it.

For more details, refer to the links I mentioned in my previous post.
