The countdown clock appears when you click on the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button on the search engine's homepage.

What is this all about?

If my arithmetic is correct (aka I punched it into a calculator), it is counting down the seconds until the New Years.

It's the end of the world.

Google has collected so much information that it gained self-awareness and has determined exactly when the world will end.

To avoid mass hysteria Google decided not to divulge the information publicly, but instead created the unlabeled count-down because it couldn't keep the information entirely to itself... I mean honestly who would be able to keep the last greatest secret to themselves.

You know, it would be such an interesting world if I actually believed in conspiracy theories.
