AI Thread Summary
Transistors play a crucial role in burglar alarms primarily as switches, controlling the flow of current within the circuit. While light-dependent resistors (LDRs) can also function as switches, transistors are essential for amplifying signals and managing multiple components. The discussion emphasizes the need for specific information, such as the type of alarm unit or circuit diagrams, to provide a more detailed explanation of transistor functionality. Understanding the arrangement and purpose of individual transistors and integrated circuits (ICs) in the alarm system is vital for grasping their role. Overall, transistors are integral to the operation of burglar alarms, serving multiple functions beyond simple switching.

I don't understand what exactly a transistor does in a burglar alarm. I read somewhere that this is its application as a switch but isn't it the LDR which works like that in this particular circuit? It would be really helpful if someone could explain the working in detail, I can't seem to find any proper explanation on the net.

there's probably a few individual transistors and a number of IC's that contain many transistors in any given alarm unit.
Your question is pretty meaningless till you give us more information to go on
Do you have a specific alarm unit?
do you have a circuit diagram for it so we can see what specific transistor(s) you are referring to ?

Transistors can be used ( amongst others things) as a basic switch

cheers

Thread 'Is there a white hole inside every black hole?'
This is what I am thinking. How much feasible is it? There is a white hole inside every black hole The white hole spits mass/energy out continuously The mass/energy that is spit out of a white hole drops back into it eventually. This is because of extreme space time curvature around the white hole Ironically this extreme space time curvature of the space around a white hole is caused by the huge mass/energy packed in the white hole Because of continuously spitting mass/energy which keeps...
Why do two separately floating objects in a liquid "attract" each other ?? What if gravity is an emergent property like surface tension ? What if they both are essentially trying to *minimize disorder at the interfaces — where non-aligned polarized particles are forced to mix with each other* What if gravity is an emergent property that is trying to optimize the entropy emerging out of spin aligned quantum bits
