I have a question- What is making this year's strain of influenza so deadly? Any ideas? I've read that it was not the strain predicted, but it seems to be picking on young chldren this year. I'd appreciate any news you have.

Is it really so deadly this year, or is it just that the media has picked up on it? It is funny how the media can strike fear in people, the same as happened with SARS. Many people die every year of the common flu, but these individuals are immuno-incompetent (young/old age/disease).
Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a highly contagious respiratory illness caused by the influenza virus. It can lead to mild to severe symptoms, and in some cases, it can even be fatal.
Influenza is primarily spread through droplets that are released into the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. These droplets can then enter the body through the nose, mouth, or eyes of a person who is nearby.
The most common symptoms of Influenza include fever, chills, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, fatigue, and sometimes diarrhea and vomiting. These symptoms can range from mild to severe and can last for several days to weeks.
Individuals who are at a higher risk for developing complications from Influenza include young children, older adults, pregnant women, and people with underlying health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease.
The best way to protect yourself and others from Influenza is by getting an annual flu vaccine. Other preventative measures include washing your hands regularly, avoiding close contact with sick individuals, and staying home when you are sick to prevent the spread of the virus.
