You have to know what type of diode you are dealing with i.e small signal , power
and so on , also the type of construction . Some diodes (small ) are made from chips
and the die information may be available from the manufacturer, Philips is pretty good for that . Otherwise it maybe required to literally decapsulate the device and look at
it under a microscope ( not impossible but difficult ) . Ray
