What you learn quickly when dealing with lots of different people is to be patient, don't get upset easily, and just have fun meeting and interacting. If you take it all personally you'll just stress yourself out. Don't worry about it, if you don't have the social skills necessary for that job...

I usually just stick everything in binders, one for each course. One for each lab section. I'm not that organized to an outside observer, but I know where everything is somehow. I have to start using notebooks for notes so they don't end up everywhere. As for homework... that ends up everywhere...
My school uses Applied Hydrogeology (4th Edition) by C.W. Fetter. It's for a 3rd year Earth science course with intoductory geology and physics as prereqs.
EDIT: woops, that's for hydrogeology, the one we use for hydrology is Physical Hydrology (2nd Edition) by S. Lawrence Dingman.
