    Conservation of Lepton Generation Number

Homework Statement "Discuss the evidence for the law of conservation of lepton generation number. What is the evidence that neutrinos of different generations are distinct?" [8 marks] Homework Equations N/A The Attempt at a Solution I understand the concept of lepton generation...

Rotational Dynamics disk of radius Question

So is 1b) The moment of inertia increases and as no external torques are acting, angular momentum must be conserved. We know L=I\omega which is the same as L=IV/r so an increase in the inertia will cause the velocity to decrease and thus the amplitude will remain the same (as slower speed and...

Rotational Dynamics disk of radius Question

Please could someone check my answers to the following and advise me on any of the bits I'm stuck on. Thanks ===== Q. A disk of radius a and mass m is suspended at its centre by a vertical torsion wire which exerts a couple \fontsize{5} -c\theta on the disk when it is twisted through an...

Gauss' Law & 2 Charged Cylinders

So the external cylinder produces no electric field outside and thus must have the opposite potential to the inner cylinder?

Gauss' Law & 2 Charged Cylinders

Hi, could someone offer some advice on the following problem: ===== Q. Using Gauss' law, obtain expressions for the electric field and potential in the space between two thin, hollow, concentric conducting cylinders, of radii a and b, with the outer cylinder connected to earth ===== I...

What Are Critical, Over, and Under Damping in Electrical Circuits?

ok thanks that really helps. So is basically critical damping sort of mid-way between under damped and over damped in the sense that it provides just enough damping to reduce most of the amplitude of oscillation, but the oscillation still actually continues?

What Are Critical, Over, and Under Damping in Electrical Circuits?

Could someone please give me a QUALITATIVE description of: -critical damping -over damping -under damping So I can understand the physics behind the oscillatios in a circuit. I know the mathematical explanations (ie. over damping is when the characteristic polynomial solutions are both...

    Evaluate Surface Integral: Solve x^2 + z^2 = 9, x=0, y=0, z=0 and y=8

Could someone take a look at this please? Thanks ===== Q. Evaluate Integral A.n dS for the following case: A=(6z, 2x+y, -x) and S is the entire surface of the region bounded by the cylinder x^2 + z^2 = 9, x=0, y=0, z=0 and y=8. ===== Using Gauss' (or Divergence) Theorem: Integral A.n...

How Do You Solve a Vector Calculus Integral Over a Sphere?

thanks. they're still carrying out triple integrals though, whereas I should only be doing a double integral :s

How Do You Solve a Vector Calculus Integral Over a Sphere?

Yes but the |gradF| on the bottom gives you a factor of 2, so it cancels :frown: Having found my tutor's notes I know that I'm doing fine up until the integral and I shouldn't be doing it as a triple integral, but rather a double integral as I've explained in my above post.

How Do You Solve a Vector Calculus Integral Over a Sphere?

Btw, I know that a simple way to solve my problem is just to use the fact that the surface area of the sphere is 4*pi*a^3, but I want to solve the integral explicitly (as practise). Have found my tutor's notes and she found the 'area element' to be a*sin^2*theta*d[theta]*d[phi] and thus carried...

How Do You Solve a Vector Calculus Integral Over a Sphere?

Anyone take a look at this vector calculus question for me: ===== Q. If n is the uni normal to the surface S, evaluate Double Integral r.n dS over the surface of a sphere of radius 'a' centred at the origin. ===== So I did: r = (x,y,z) Sphere: x^2 + y^2 + z^2 = a^2 let f = x^2 +...

Potential Energy of an Atom Due to Its Charge Distribution

Could someone help me with this: ===== Q. The nucleus of an atom can be considered to be a charge of +Ze uniformly distributed throughout a sphere of radius a. Show that the potential energy of a nucleus due to its charge is (3Z^2.e^2)/(20.pi.epsilon-0.a). What would the potential energy be...
