    Acceleration word problem help :/

The final equation I end up getting is 0=-4.9m/s^2*t^2-7.0m/s*t-12m When I solve that using the quadratic formula I get the squareroot of a negative number. What am I doing wrong?

    Acceleration word problem help :/

we've never learned that equation  :frown: Edit* But I had the same idea, I just am confused about the balloon's displacement Would it be 12m+7.0m/s*t??

    Acceleration word problem help :/

acceleration/velocity word problem help! The problem is: A hot air balloon is ascending straight up at a constant speed of 7.0 m/s. when the balloon is 12.0 m above the ground, a gun fires a pellet straight up from ground level with an initial speed of 30.0 m/s. Along the paths of the...

    Acceleration, screwed up vector?

Yeah, I got through my physics h.w. much easier after having that cleared up. thanks

    Acceleration, screwed up vector?

Actually nevermind! I did some research and found out that if an object is going in the positive direction and Deccelerating, then the sign of the acceleration is opposite of the direction. I think that's right?

    Acceleration, screwed up vector?

acceleration: screwed up vector?? I need things cleared up when it comes to acceleration. Is acceleration negative when it points in a certain direction...or when an object is slowing down? I was working on a free falling bodies word problem: A diver springs upward with an initial speed of 1.8...

Find Limit of (1-cos(x))/2sin^2(x) for x->0

Thanks that helped out a lot, figured it out! I have a test on this chapter Tuesday, and these trig limits might just kill me. There are so many identities to use, so little time.

Find Limit of (1-cos(x))/2sin^2(x) for x->0

I don't know if this neccessarily belongs in the calculus section, but it's for my calculus class. How would you go about finding the limit as x approaches 0 for (1-cos(x))/2sin^2(x) I know the answer is 1/4(unless I copied it down wrong :/ ) , but what first steps would you take to evaluating...

How Do Two Accelerating Soccer Players Collide?

Oh wow! I feel REALLY dumb right now. Was the solution that simple? I just worked it out and got the right answer(so it is that simple  ) I was going through every other equation, missing the easy connection with this one. Thanks a lot

How Do Two Accelerating Soccer Players Collide?

I'm taking high school physics right now, and we're doing kinematics in one dimension. Well I've been stuck on this word problem for days and stumbled across this forum on a google search. Thought maybe you could help. Anyway it is: --------------------------------------------------------------...
