Undergrad Need integral help, i think its trig sub., thanks
\int_{0}^{a}\frac{x}{(x^2+z^2)^\frac{3}{2}}dx Hi all, I'm stuck on this one. Sure there's an easier way to do it. Don't have my calc book currently. Thanks!- klawlor419

Graduate Why do TEM modes need two conductors to propagate?
Why do we need two conducting surfaces to allow TEM modes to propagate through a waveguide? Why can we not propagate TEM waves through a single conducting waveguide?- klawlor419

Graduate Why Does the First Term in the Force Equation Between Current Loops Cancel Out?
there's an important identity involving one of the terms. Once you use that identity, you can deduce by divergence theorem that the entire term for loop 1 vanishes.- klawlor419

Graduate What Size Circle Fits Between Three Touching Circles?
Simon -- Thanks for the response. So I got that the radius of the small inner circle turns out to be, r=2Sqrt[3]-3. I'm not sure if this is correct but the number seems to make sense. Turns out ~.46 units as opposed to the outer spheres which I assumed to be 1 unit radii...- klawlor419

Graduate What Size Circle Fits Between Three Touching Circles?
Hi -- Thinking about the problem, where I have three circles in a closest possible packing inside an equilateral triangle. So two circles on the floor, adjacent to each other touching and a third circle placed on top so that the distances off their centers from each other are all 2R, R=Radius...- klawlor419

8 Electrons in a 3-D Infinite Square Well w/ Spin
I see now, I knew I was slightly missing something! Thanks for catching the factor also. I had it on paper as an 8 ;) So the first four states that get filled with 2 electrons each, are the: 1,1,1 2,1,1 1,2,1 1,1,2 Though the last 3 are states that have the same energy, they are distinct...- klawlor419

8 Electrons in a 3-D Infinite Square Well w/ Spin
Homework Statement A cubical box whose sides are length L contains eight electrons. As a multiple of $$\frac{h^2}{2mL^2}$$ what is the energy of the ground state of the eight electrons? Assume the electrons do not interact with each other but do not neglect spin. Homework Equations...- klawlor419

Thin Film Interference in Glass Plates: How Many Bright Fringes Will Be Seen?
I think I need to do an integration summing up the m's for all the values of d. Because the plates go from 0mm separation to .048 mm separation.- klawlor419

Thin Film Interference in Glass Plates: How Many Bright Fringes Will Be Seen?
Homework Statement A broad beam of light, of wavelength 683nm is sent directly down through the top plate of a pair of glass plates. The plates are 120mm long, touch at the left end and are separated by a wire of a diameter .048mm at the right end. Air between the plates act as a thin film...- klawlor419

Graduate Question about Dirac Delta function
Its because the primed r inside of the D is just a tool for you to note that you are integrating that function over all space, while weighting it with the 3-D point function. Once you do the integral, it takes on the value of the function D evaluated at the point r (unprimed). The function at...- klawlor419
