    Isothermal and reversible expansion work problem (Physical Chem)

    Homework Statement A sample of 2.00 mol. CH3OH (g) is condensed isothermally and reversibly to liquid at 64*C. The standard enthalpy of condensation of methanol @ 64*C is -35.3 kJ/mol. Find w and q for the reaction. Homework Equations w = -nRT * ln(Vf/Vi) (although I don't have volume...

    Chemistry: Converting density to molar mass given other values.

    M = d*R*T/P = 1230g/m^3 * 8.314 * 300k / 20,000 = 153.39 g/mol?

    Chemistry: Converting density to molar mass given other values.

    Wait so I did it right the first time? I don't have the answer in the book, unfortunately it is an even numbered problem. Why didn't the formula you told me work?

    Chemistry: Converting density to molar mass given other values.

    Okay so d = MP/RT where M is the molar mass (or molar volume?)? Sorry I just want to make sure. And thanks for the help guys. Like I said I saw that formula in the book but I thought it said it only applied at STP.

    Chemistry: Converting density to molar mass given other values.

    I take it that is the molar volume formula? The reason why I didn't use that is because it says in my book that the formula for molar volume (above) is used under STP conditions. Did I read that wrong?

    Chemistry: Converting density to molar mass given other values.

    Homework Statement The density of a gaseous compound was found to be 1.23 kg/m^3 at 330K and 20,000 Pa. What is the molar mass of this compound. Homework Equations PV=nRT The Attempt at a Solution I don't think this is right but I assumed a volume of 1 m^3. So I used ideal gas...

    Can someone check my work? Neutralization reaction.

    Homework Statement 2 H3PO4 + 3 Ba(OH)2 ---> Ba3(PO4)2 + 6H2O What volume of 0.2M H3PO4 will be required to completely neutralize 100 mL of 0.6M Ba(OH)2. What I did was used normality and said that there are 2*3 = 6N H+ ions and 3*2 = 6N OH ions. Therefore, I multiplied the normals by...

    What is the balanced half reaction for MnO4 and VO in redox reactions?

    Homework Statement Identify the oxidizing agent and the reducing agent and write a balanced equation for each half reaction. MnO4(1-) + VO(2+) ----> Mn(2+) + V(OH)4 (1+) Homework Equations None. The Attempt at a Solution I know how to do these when there is just one atom...

    Calculating EDTA Titration Volume for CoSO4 Solution

    Yeah that is the problem I am having. How do I know what the molar ratio of EDTA to any metal is? The book doesn't explain it in the examples, it just throws the ratio in there. It gives a 1:1 ratio to EDTA:Mg(NO2)2 but not sure about the others. Thanks.

    Calculating EDTA Titration Volume for CoSO4 Solution

    Okay I think I might have figured it out. Get moles of CoSO4, then multiply that by the molar ratio of EDTA to CoSO4 then multiply by the concentration of EDTA?

    Calculating EDTA Titration Volume for CoSO4 Solution

    Homework Statement A solution contains 1.694mg of CoSO4 (155.0 g/mol) per mL. Calculate the volume of 0.08640 M EDTA needed to titrate a 25 mL aliquot of this solution. Homework Equations Not really sure, the book is no help but this may help: K(CoSO4) = [CoSO4] / ([CO2+] [SO42-])...

    MATLAB Matlab error, anyone know what this means?

    "Unable to start the application--the class file could not be loaded Catastrophic failure" It did this when I was using my CD to reload a toolbox that was corrupt. So I uninstalled the previous version, and even did so using a third party program that gets rid of EVERYTHING, then tried...
