Helmholtz coil with a ferrous core
No. I am trying to create a uniform field between a pair of electromagnets just like the field inbetween any pair of helmholtz coils. Thanks.- miloko

Helmholtz coil with a ferrous core
Dear all, I know that I can create a uniform field using the design of a Helmholtz coil with an air-core. However, if I use a ferrous core like iron, will I still be able to create a uniform field under the same conditions? Also, how is the equation for the magnetic field, B, changed when...- miloko

Graduate Re: Shielding Magnetic Fields of Permanent Magnets
Hi all, In one of the books I'm reading, it says that shields are only used in the presence of alternating fields. However, in some websites, I see people using magnetic shields for permanent magnets which has a magnetostatic field. I ran some simulations, and the filed of a permanent magnet...- miloko

Re: Magnetic Shielding Materials
Hi all, I was looking into magnetic shielding materials. I have the impression that nickle, copper, steel standalone are good shileding materials. However, some people claim that an alloy of these elements (eg. netics) are better shielding materials. Is this simply an empirical measurement...- miloko

Undergrad Permanent Magnets: Electromagnetic Wave Propagation?
Hi all, I have this simple question that I never really understood. A permanent magnet generates a magnetic field around itself. Is there an electromagnetic wave propagation associated with this permanent magnet? If so, what is the frequency of the wave? Thanks, Mike- miloko

Induction Coil Sensors: Working Range & Market Availability
Hi all, Does anyone know about the working range and market availability of the induction coil sensors? The field that I am dealing with is in the range of 2000-5000 Gauss and it's not suitable to use a Hall-Effect Sensor. Thanks, Mike- miloko

Re: Axis Transformation, time -> distance
Hi all, I have a graph, plotted as Force vs. Time. Now, I want to plot the graph as Force vs. Distance. I'm taking distance = 1/2(F/mass)*(t^2). I think this is the right way to do it, but just need some confirmation. Thanks, Mike- miloko

High School Kinetic Energy and Work to stop a particle
Does the following statement makes sense? The work in joules required to stop a particle moving with kinetic energy 10 J is, in fact, 10 J if we ignore energy dissipation due to friction. Thanks, Mike -

Undergrad Estimate Collision Duration: 1.5 N Force on Plastic Box
What is the best way to estimate or measure the duration of a contact in a collision? I have a stick applying a 1.5 N force onto a stationary plastic box. Assuming that the plastic is incompressible, how long will the time have elapsed before the stick with 1.5 N no longer has an effect on...
