What is Algorithmic Problem Solving ?

I offer no insights. Though, i do recall this; http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=8B24C31197EC371C "Introduction To Algorithms" MIT lecture series (Very comp-sci based, apparently). Could give you an idea of what you're in for. P.S. I did watch the first lecture at some point...

Tricki (A 'Wiki' For Problem Solving Techniques)

I found this whilst browsing Tim Gowers blog. http://www.tricki.org/ Seems to be a project of Gowers, Tao and a couple of others and is just a week or two (?) old. The aim is for the site to act as a Wiki-style database of problem solving techniques/advice/tricks etc - rather than a...

What's considered a long commute time to consider residence?

I'll be spending at least 2 hours per day traveling to and from Uni when i begin. Thats 10 hours per week of lost (or greatly diminished) study time. Saving £4,000+ on accomodation, though, and probably the same again on food/random stuff. Although the cost of commute per year (train) will add...

What is the Easiest Way to Solve an Integration Problem Involving Tan(x)?

Yes, sorry, i am stupid. I realized that 2 minutes after posting here. I'm pretty sure i have it now. It's just -(2+u)^{-1} for u=tanx, right? And thanks for the reply.

Rolling Chalkboards Supplier UK - Find Your Perfect Fit

"Rolling" Chalkboards I've been trying to find a supplier of rolling chalkboards (on a spool). When you google the term you are given nothing but "reversable chalkboards" (on a stand, flipping between sides). This would be for personal use, I'm not a lecturer or anything. I'd just like one...

MSc in Physics for Indian BSc Student: Eligibility & Admission

No - it's not. Not in Scotland, at least. BSc Hons is a 4 year course - 5 years for Masters. [QUOUTE=cristo]The only difference between an honours degree and an ordinary degree is the number of credits/units (or whatever they're called at your university) taken per year.[\QUOTE] Again - in...

MSc in Physics for Indian BSc Student: Eligibility & Admission

A BSc is 3 years in the UK, but a BSc Hons (which is what radhikak speaks of) is 4 years. I do see occasional MSc Studentships being advertised - though usually not from any of the 'top' UK Universities - and I'm not sure if they include funding for International Students.

Choosing Between Business and Physics: A Dilemma of Time and Passion

If you love Physics then i guarantee you will despise a life as an accountant. You have a thirst for understanding which will never be met. (My eldest Sister is a chartered accountant, makes decent money, travels the world, and enjoys it only because she has no curiosity nor craving for...

Getting an REU: Steps to Take Now for Next Year

I finally decided to Google REU and am now disgruntled. Appears to be an amazing oppurtunity; yet no UK equivalent? Pfft.

Economy & Job Search Tips for Physics Majors

It's ill-informed speculation. Things arent as bad as mass-media depicts. Chill.

That does make sense. Thanks cristo, cleared some stuff up.

Programs Just wondering (concerning PHD Studentships).

I'm hoping for a UK perspective on this; though perhaps there is little difference between that and a US one. The details of and difference between Studentship PHDs and Non-Studentship PHDs are vague in my mind - so, i'll offer my current understanding for you to annihilate...
