    Help with basic problem?

Ok I see what you were saying now. I appreciate the help. Ok, fair enough. I'll keep that in mind.

    Help with basic problem?

No my algebra is definitely wrong here. I need help understanding what I did wrong. I divided by ##\pm\sqrt{8}## and I either don't know something or forgot something and my algebra is wrong. What used latex to show is what I did. It doesn't bother me to be wrong as long as I figure it out.

    Help with basic problem?

    When I get to 3x+5 = \frac{1}{\pm \sqrt{8}} I subtract -5 from both sides 3x= \frac{1}{\pm \sqrt{8}} -5 3x=1-(5±\sqrt{8}))/(±\sqrt{8}) Then I divided by 3.

    Help with basic problem?

Ok, but why? That makes no sense. That is much more difficult and time consuming and it produces the same outcome. I would get ride of it, but it is not letting me now. Feel free to remove it if you like. If you don't want us to attach photos then why included the ability to add an attachment?

    Help with basic problem?

Homework Statement I'm working out of Serge Lang's Basic Mathematics and in chapter 3 section 3 this problem comes up. (3x+5) ^{-4} =64 Homework Equations The Attempt at a Solution I keep getting (1-(5±\sqrt{8}))/(3±\sqrt{8}) The book says it is (±1-5\sqrt{8})/(3\sqrt{8}) It is not...

How to improve organization of math on a page?

Yeah that is a good suggestion and I'll be sure to ask. I've looked over his work to get a feel for it, but I get the impression that it has to do with his handwriting and ability to know how much space he is going to take up before he writes. Handwriting isn't super neat or even small just...

    Struggle learning fluid mechanics

I can't help you with this at all, but thankfully the internet here to help. Check out this http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/find-by-topic/#cat=engineering&subcat=mechanicalengineering&spec=fluidmechanics and tell me if it helps. Good luck. Also, if you have specific questions someone in the main...

How to improve organization of math on a page?

I'm pretty good at math, but I have troubles organize stuff on a page. I might have some fine motor problems, but I'm not sure. Specifically with figures with straight lines like square root symbols, the number 1, x's and y's specifically in lowercase form. You can see why this can be an issue...

    Basic vector problem help.

Ok so I went to sleep and tried looking at it again in the morning. I figured out were my x and y should go so that is no longer an issue. I used 65% for my angle and got 12.68 for my x just like before and 18.9 for my y. Again not sure if this is right, but I'll definitely understand how to do...

    Basic vector problem help.

Homework Statement I included the problem as an attachment. There is not question other than the problem. It was on a white board. Homework Equations I have no idea what to do with the downwards vector. I vaguely remember that I can't do anything, but I'm not sure. The Attempt at a Solution...

    Texture and Atoms

I know that we aren't touching anything because atoms are repelling because electron can't touch each other. What I'm trying to figure out is texture. I think the reason we feel texture is because of the variance in atoms in a particular spot. For example a table is smooth because the...

    The Theoretical Minimum book question

I think I get it, but could you be a little more specific what you mean by projection? Thank you for the help.
