Electric charge/Colombs law problems
I have a problem I am working on before the end of today and I am having some trouble getting the right answer. What am I missing? 1. Homework Statement The charges and coordinates of two charged particles held fixed in an xy plane are q1 = 3.11 μC, x1 = 5.72 cm, y1 = 0.703 cm and q2 = -6.23...- RandellK02

ElectroStatic Equilibrium problem
Okay say, if distance between q3 and q2 =d than distance between q3 and q1 is L - d correct? So... kq3q1/(L-d)2=kq3q2/d2 =>q1/(L-d)2=q2/d2 If the above steps are correct... is it safe to assume to use the fact: q2=3q1 to eliminate the two charges?- RandellK02

ElectroStatic Equilibrium problem
Homework Statement particle 1 of charge q1 (at origin) and particle 2 of charge q2 = 3q1, are held at separation L on an x axis. If particle 3 of unknown charge q3 is to be located such that the net electrostatic force on it from particles 1 and 2 is zero, what must be the (a) x and (b) y...- RandellK02

Need some clarification on conducting spheres
Question: Two identical conducting spheres, fixed in place, attract each other with an electrostatic force of 0.141 N when their center-to-center separation is 67.0 cm. The spheres are then connected by a thin conducting wire. When the wire is removed, the spheres repel each other with an...- RandellK02

Finding angle for this resultant vector
Hello I am working on this problem and just can't figure it out... Consider two displacements, one of magnitude 3.0 m and another of magnitude 3.8 m. What angle between the directions of this two displacements give a resultant displacement of magnitude (a) 5.7 m, (b) 2.5 m, and (c) 3.6 m...- RandellK02
