I'm confused about whether MySQL is an actual language you program in or whether it is just an environment or IDE.
Or is PHP what you write in Mysql or can you write any language in MySQL. Can someone explain this to me? please let me know if I haven't explained my question clearly enough.
I read reply above about IT certs -- they are a must if you already have people connections and just need to get in. If you are only resting on the certs alone (eg microsoft, server, ccna etc) they won't do too much. Too many people already have tons of certs.
Along the same lines as the original post.
Something that you can do which is viewed as heavier would be working on open-source. I have done some on C++ and is more impressive than having taken an introductory course. Not to say that intro course doesn't increase credibility.
I would say...
Different to answer your question because it is vague and largely subjective, since they all are rigorous. If I had to pick one I would definitely pick number theory.
I suppose you should pick whatever will relate the most to what you want to do -- that seems to make sense.
Uhm, I know you don't need to know calc to learn linear algebra. In my opinion, linear algebra is a lot easier than calc and you just need to have a solid algebra foundation.
Differential Equations uses it all, on the other hand. In that short of a span, I doubt you would get too rusty anyways...
so if I study 6 hours per day should I get to the end of diff equations in a 1-2 years. Does that sound about right or does it generally take a bit longer at that rate.
I am about middle-range in terms of aptitude/understanding ability.
I would love some time projections from people have...
How long to get to the end of differential equations or graduate level competency?
I am beginning calc and and linear algebra simultaneously and things are progressing nicely, although, I realize I do math about 3 hours per day and I have a few gaps in my math foundation. I am working towards...
I was just checking out coursera and some others and noticed there many advanced classes available.
If completed, how much weight would this carry in an interview or generally on a CV? Would this be considered fluff?
Obviously, we are in a transitional period with traditional education...
I don't know about VERY advanced mathematics but just obsessively repeating seems to work mostly. I remember I learned this around trig where I found all the identies etc to be so annoying and I tried to avoid them. Eventually you just have to get used to using them to the point that you...
Thank you for your response, I was starting to think the question was a dead end ha.
It is comforting to hear your general response(s) i.e it not widely known or assumed from your perspective.
I'm generally curious about actual hiring practices vs. policy and how they contrast.
I guess it...
I am now becoming aware that with software engineering ageism is a pretty big factor, in that, being younger is an unfair advantage--all things equal.
My general question is: how much is ageism a factor in IT vs. more traditional engineering?
Does one generally maneuver into consulting after...
