Find acc. given coefficient of frict. on incline slope

    1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data A clerk moves a box of cans down an aisle by pulling on a strap attached to the box. The clerk pulls with a force of 190.0 N at an angle of 28° with the horizontal. The box has a mass of 37 kg, and the...

    Crossing a flowing river problem

Ok so your saying the horizontal speed just causes displacement but won't effect the total time to get across the river. You basically disregard the speed of the river. I did the displacement divided by the speed of the hunters boat and got the right answer. I guess its kind of like thinking...

    Crossing a flowing river problem

Homework Statement A hunter wishes to cross a river that is 1.6 km wide and that flows with a speed of 3.4 km/h. The hunter uses a small powerboat that moves at a maximum speed of 12.4 km/h with respect to the water. What is the minimum time necessary for crossing? Homework Equations...

How to Find the Resultant Velocity of a Plane with a Wind?

Homework Statement Kyle is flying a plane due north at 230 km/h as a wind carries it due east at 56 km/h. Find the magnitude and direction of the plane's resultant velocity analytically. 236.7 km/h (magnitude) ° (direction) Homework Equations Tan=opp/adj The Attempt at a...

Car accelerates then brakes. What is its displacement?

Thats a good explanation. I didnt know you had to figure in the time to the initial velocity like that. Thanks for your help Anden! I got the answer (31.5195) on my last guess!

Car accelerates then brakes. What is its displacement?

Hmm I'm kind of confused on this. Yes there is initial velocity but you don't know how long there is initial velocity. It just says the car accelerated then broke. Which to me means it instantly broke so when you do the first part of the equation you would be multiplying (7.7)(0) which would be...

Car accelerates then brakes. What is its displacement?

I actually tried this too. I did: .5(1.4)(5.5)^2=21.175 .5(-1.9)(1.7)^2=-2.7455 I added them together without the - sign to get 23.9205... wasnt correct. So i tried subtracting the -2.7455 to get 18.4295 (which is not even logical) and wasnt correct.

Car accelerates then brakes. What is its displacement?

Homework Statement A car starts from rest and travels for 5.5 s with a uniform acceleration of +1.4 m/s2. The driver then applies the brakes, causing a uniform acceleration of -1.9 m/s2. The breaks are applied for 1.70 s. (a) How fast is the car going at the end of the braking period? 4.47...

    One dimensional motion problems

Set up an equation with respect to the flagpole being zero. If runner a is 4mi west (-4miles) and running 6mi/h east (+6mi/h) and runner b is 3 miles east (+3miles) running at 5mi/h west (-5mi/hr), then you can set them equal to each other to find when they meet. -4+6x=3-5x then x=.64 Then...
