Spring-Mass-Damper by Recurrence Relations
Homework Statement Solve the Mass-Spring-Damper Differential equation mx''+bx'+kx=exp(-t)cos(t) (Where x'' is d2x/dt2 etc, don't know how to do the dots above ) I understand how to solve this problem, but the thing that confuses me is that the right is in terms of "t"...- tanky322

Sea Water Thermodynamic Properties?
I think there is a unit issue with the specific heat of 3850 J/(Kg K), given that the specific heat of water is around 2200 KJ/(Kg K). I just wanted to see if what I am saying here is making sense. Thanks- tanky322

Sea Water Thermodynamic Properties?
Im looking for thermodynamic properties of seawater, especially specific heat and enthalpy. I am designing a solar desalinator, and I am trying to determine the required amounts of energy to evaporate the water. Is there a way in which I can determine the enthalpy of seawater by knowing the...- tanky322

Thermal Design Liquid PVT Relationship
We have covered the basic modes of heat conduction, Conduction, convection, radiation etc, also we did a good deal on heat exchanger design. I would say pretty much the basics of heat transfer. Equipment wise I have access to a variety of equipment. CNC mills and lathes and various different...- tanky322

Thermal Design Liquid PVT Relationship
After really thinking about this, I never put two and two together that I could just use the saturated steam tables. Does anyone have any useful ideas that I could use as a design project? The only requirement is that it cannot be purely theoretical, some type of model must be built...- tanky322

Thermal Design Liquid PVT Relationship
I'm starting a Thermal Design course this semester and I need to come up with some type of thermal based design project. I came up with one idea, but I am trying to determine its feasibility, which is not proving to be very easy. I have been trying to find the correlation between pressure...- tanky322

Undergrad Laplace Transforms, Region of Convergence
I'm somewhat familiar with complex variables, although not too much. I guess what I am not really sure of, is what exactly converges? The function and e^-st? Thanks for your reply!- tanky322

Undergrad Laplace Transforms, Region of Convergence
Can anyone explain the region of convergence to me in english? I understand the Laplace transform and can do it with my eyes closed, but I can't figure out how to figure out the ROC. I've scoured the internet, and every definition is vague or just incomprehensible by me. Thanks!- tanky322

Examining Ductility of Al-Cu Alloy: Brittle vs Copper & Aluminum
Hi mapes, thanks for responding. I ended up figuring it out I think. This is what I ended up putting in my report for an answer. I got it from a DOE paper http://www1.eere.energy.gov/industry/imf/pdfs/intermetallics.pdf" The brittle nature of the Al-Cu alloy can be attributed to the fact...- tanky322

Examining Ductility of Al-Cu Alloy: Brittle vs Copper & Aluminum
Homework Statement Examine the ductility of the Al-Cu alloy. Note how brittle the mixture is- most unlike copper or aluminum-Why? 2. Relevant Information The alloy was a 50-50 mix of Al and Cu heated to 700C and then poured into a mold, before the eutectic temp was reached the...- tanky322

Solving SCR Circuit Problem - EE Student Seeking Help
I came across a circuit online to vary the 220V input into a welder. This is done to control the amount of current entering the piece being welded, using a foot pedal. The circuit has worked for many people. I built the circuit, but it doesn't work. R2 blew when I would crank the pot up, and...- tanky322
