Relationships: Is It Being Ignored?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around the relatively low activity in the relationships sub-forum compared to other sections of the website. Participants note that this sub-forum was created to manage the influx of relationship-related threads that were overwhelming the General Discussion (GD) area. Some members express that the lack of posts may reflect a broader trend of users avoiding discussions about the opposite sex while focusing on other topics. There's a suggestion that the relationships sub-forum could benefit from further categorization into specialized areas such as sex and sexuality, friendship, and family issues to encourage more engagement. Overall, the conversation highlights the unique challenges and dynamics of discussing relationships in a niche forum setting.

I just saw that relationships is the only part of the entire website without thousands upon thousands of posts. Co-incidence? I think not! Would ignoring this sub-forum be indicative of ignoring the opposite sex in pursuit of something else?

Relationships is a relatively new sub-forum, split off from GD. Give it time.

Exactly. It was split off because there were *so* many relationship threads popping up in GD. Some members became annoyed at repeated questions like, "Should I kiss her, or what?"

I think it was a good decision to make it a separate forum.

Oh, I thought the forums were all the same age. I am a stereotypical awkward nerd so I found it quite fitting that a relationship section on a physics forum would be a little on the lean side! The world needs more Howard Wolowitz's :)

I wonder what would happen if the relationships section was split up into multiple sub sub-forums. E.g. sex and sexuality, friendship, family issues, pets, professional collegiality, and neighbors for example.

Just ONCE, I wanted to see a post titled Status Update that was not a blatant, annoying spam post by a new member. So here it is. Today was a good day here in Northern Wisconsin. Fall colors are here, no mosquitos, no deer flies, and mild temperature, so my morning run was unusually nice. Only two meetings today, and both went well. The deer that was road killed just down the road two weeks ago is now fully decomposed, so no more smell. Somebody has a spike buck skull for their...
Thread 'In the early days of electricity, they didn't have wall plugs'
Hello scientists, engineers, etc. I have not had any questions for you recently, so have not participated here. I was scanning some material and ran across these 2 ads. I had posted them at another forum, and I thought you may be interested in them as well. History is fascinating stuff! Some houses may have had plugs, but many homes just screwed the appliance into the light socket overhead. Does anyone know when electric wall plugs were in widespread use? 1906 ad DDTJRAC Even big...
