What is the Solution to AP Chemistry 2006 Form A Free Response Question #5?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on solving AP Chemistry 2006 Form A Free Response Question #5. The participant identifies compounds X, Y, and Z as Na2CO3, KCl, and MgSO4, respectively. They correctly describe the reaction between hydroxide ions and magnesium ions to form magnesium hydroxide. However, they note that their explanation for the pH being greater than 7 lacks sufficient detail regarding the source of hydroxide ions. The participant concludes that they have resolved the issue and requests to close the thread.

The Attempt at a Solution

I think i got the first 3 parts right. Here's what i came up with.

a. X = Na2CO3
Y = KCl
Z = MgSO4

b. OH- + Mg+2 -> Mg(OH)2

c. X has a PH greater than 7 because the its solution contains OH-

Answers look good except for 'c'. The answer is not false but is not the answer to the question asked. The presence of OH- must be backed up by more information, especially a reaction indicating where the OH- came from.

I got it figured out already. Thanks anyway. Please close this thread if you don't mind :)

I don't get how to argue it. i can prove: evolution is the ability to adapt, whether it's progression or regression from some point of view, so if evolution is not constant then animal generations couldn`t stay alive for a big amount of time because when climate is changing this generations die. but they dont. so evolution is constant. but its not an argument, right? how to fing arguments when i only prove it.. analytically, i guess it called that (this is indirectly related to biology, im...
