Capacitance & Inductance in Diff. Dielectric Mediums

AI Thread Summary
Calculating the capacitance of a twisted wire pair in different dielectric mediums can be complex, especially in 3D. The user initially planned to use FastFieldSolver for modeling but encountered software issues. An alternative approach discussed involves taking 2D snapshots of the wire's configuration and averaging the capacitance values. Recommendations for resources include a website with cable design equations and General Cable's electronics catalog, which contain relevant formulas. The visibility of these resources on search engines may be limited due to their content being in image format rather than text.

Hello!

How do I calculate the capacitance of a twisted wire pair in 3D? The pair of wire would have two different dielectric(air and insulation) mediums and hence I am not able to figure out how to calculate it by hand.

My plan was to create a 3D Model, mesh it and put it up in FastFieldSolver. But that software is not working.

Another one was to just take 2D snapshots of the wire in different positions as it twists around each other, cascade the capacitance and get the average of those values.

But since that software is not working, can you please link me to a free/evaluation software that would allow me to do this?

Also do you have a way in mind which would allow me to do it by hand or a script?

Thank you for your time!

This is great! I was just looking at the wrong areas!

These sites really didn't show up on the first few pages of google because of the formulas not being indexed maybe due to the fact that the content are in a image format and not text!

Hi all I have some confusion about piezoelectrical sensors combination. If i have three acoustic piezoelectrical sensors (with same receive sensitivity in dB ref V/1uPa) placed at specific distance, these sensors receive acoustic signal from a sound source placed at far field distance (Plane Wave) and from broadside. I receive output of these sensors through individual preamplifiers, add them through hardware like summer circuit adder or in software after digitization and in this way got an...
I have recently moved into a new (rather ancient) house and had a few trips of my Residual Current breaker. I dug out my old Socket tester which tell me the three pins are correct. But then the Red warning light tells me my socket(s) fail the loop test. I never had this before but my last house had an overhead supply with no Earth from the company. The tester said "get this checked" and the man said the (high but not ridiculous) earth resistance was acceptable. I stuck a new copper earth...
Thread 'Beauty of old electrical and measuring things, etc.'
Even as a kid, I saw beauty in old devices. That made me want to understand how they worked. I had lots of old things that I keep and now reviving. Old things need to work to see the beauty. Here's what I've done so far. Two views of the gadgets shelves and my small work space: Here's a close up look at the meters, gauges and other measuring things: This is what I think of as surface-mount electrical components and wiring. The components are very old and shows how...
