AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around a TV commentator's unusual comparison of a boxer's knockout to the style of Jackson Pollock, a renowned abstract expressionist painter known for his chaotic paint splattering techniques. Participants express confusion over the phrase, questioning its logic and relevance to boxing. Some suggest that the commentator might have meant the boxer hit the canvas in a way reminiscent of Pollock's art, which often appears chaotic and violent. The conversation highlights the absurdity of the comparison, with references to the bloodstains in the boxing ring and the unconventional nature of Pollock's work, ultimately concluding that the expression, while strange, could make sense in the context of the fight's brutality.

Like Jackson Pollock (!?)

"He hit the campus like Jackson Pollock".
Said the TV commentator when one boxer was KO-ed last night.
Anybody heard that before, what kind of saying is that, what's the logic behind it?
If I don't mistake J.Pollock was a well known abstract expressionist painter, but what does that has to do with martial arts??

Could it be he hit the canvas like Jackson Pollock? Still weird, but makes more sense when you think of how awful Pollock is. It's more like abusing or violating the canvas than hitting it though. :-p

Maybe it was canvas Evo.
It could be that I didn't hear correctly becouse he was screaming.
Anycase ,strange and illogical expression (those crazy British commentators..)

Jackson Pollock was famous for creating paintings where he literally just threw tins of paint at a canvas and would "paint" with his hands and arms and feet. If you google his name and look at some of the images I'm sure many of them will be of his paintings.

Perhaps he means Pollock's canvases are bloodied and broken?

Did anyone notice the bloodstains all over the floor of the boxing ring?

Maybe it looked like a Pollock.

Ahhhhhhhhh canvas!

That makes so much more sense. Well done Evo, have one clarity star.
