AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around the inquiry into the possibility of telepathy, particularly its effectiveness over distances of several kilometers. The individual, a neurology student, mentions receiving an email from someone claiming to possess telepathic abilities and references figures like Vinko Rajic and Uri Geller, who also claim such abilities. The conversation highlights the lack of scientific documentation or research supporting telepathy, with participants emphasizing that the forum is focused on mainstream science rather than fringe theories. They express skepticism about the claims and question why a telepath would resort to email communication if their abilities were genuine. The need for credible scientific references to substantiate claims of telepathy is stressed, with a clear indication that speculation without evidence is not welcome in the discussion.

I am Neurology student , today I get email from one person that can use telepathy.
Is it possible that telepathy works on the distance of few kilometer?
I can not find any document on any existing person today that can use telepathy
but I found Vinko Rajic and Uri Geller and they are talking that they can use telepathy.
Why they do not make research on it? Many Schizophrenic are coming with similar story.
Can it be that some Schizophrenics are just receiving from some other head?

Hi VectorHedman, welcome to PF.

This site is for discussing mainstream science, not fringe ideas. Do you have any mainstream scientific reference documenting telepathy? If so then we can discuss that reference, but we cannot engage in unfounded speculation.

If you simply want to speculate then there are many other forums that would be more suitable.

Well to be fair, he wasn't asking for speculation, he was asking for facts (i.e. are there papers? is there research?).

I suppose someone will be able to answer this clearly and with sources.

Yes, which is why I explained the restrictions and asked for a reference rather than reporting the post. If there is some mainstream reference then we can discuss it further, but otherwise we cannot.

If this guy really used telepathy, why did he send you an e-mail?

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...
Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
