Optimal Steel Profile and Hook Design for Crane Beam Project

AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on designing a crane beam with a fixed steel profile and a hook featuring two welded ears. Key parameters include a 2400mm distance from the restraint to the hook attachment point and a hook weight of 3000kg. Participants are asked to suggest the optimal steel profile, ear dimensions, and weld specifications, ensuring the design can accommodate bending and welding techniques. Additionally, recommendations for the pin material and treatment are sought to effectively transmit the load. The goal is to prepare for subsequent Finite Element Method simulations.

while study i have been given a task from mine teacher to make the beam for the crane...

The steel profile is fix one end. The other end, ends with a hook which takes the form of two ears, welded on both sides of the profile. The distance from the point of restraint to the point of attachment Hook is 2400mm. Distance attachment point of the hook from the lower edge of the profile This 115mm. suggest optimal section of profile provided that in the point of attachment hook through the pin the diameter is d and the hook weight will be like 3000kg. You know that the distance between the 'ears' of hook is 140mm and the thickness of each ear is 15mm - you shoud suggest the best pin who will transmit the load. Determine the optimal size of the ears and the size and length of the weld that will connect ears with the profile. The profile MUST be possible to preform by the bending and welding technique - suggest material and type of treatment pin.

Can anyone help me about chose the best profile for the beam? and the steel material? that's mine problem coz next i must do the Finite element method simulation etc

Thread 'Have I solved this structural engineering equation correctly?'
Hi all, I have a structural engineering book from 1979. I am trying to follow it as best as I can. I have come to a formula that calculates the rotations in radians at the rigid joint that requires an iterative procedure. This equation comes in the form of: $$ x_i = \frac {Q_ih_i + Q_{i+1}h_{i+1}}{4K} + \frac {C}{K}x_{i-1} + \frac {C}{K}x_{i+1} $$ Where: ## Q ## is the horizontal storey shear ## h ## is the storey height ## K = (6G_i + C_i + C_{i+1}) ## ## G = \frac {I_g}{h} ## ## C...
