Hi,I'm reading the proof of Rodriguez recurrence formula
P_l(x) = \frac{1}{2^l l!} \frac{d^l}{dx^l} (x^2-1)^l
This formula itself isn't a problem.
But during the proof I got
(1-2xt+t^2)^{-\frac{1}{2}} = \sum_n \left( \begin{array}{c} -\frac{1}{2} \\ n \end{array} \right)...

How do i find the fraction closest to 0.987654321 using the geometric series?
I have tried taking the geometric series and its derivatives but none seem to fit it. Can anyone help?
I`ve been asked to complete the following expresion
\frac{x^5}{x^3 - x}
I know i`m supossed to reduce the numerator, but i`m a little stuck getting started.
The problem i have is how do you reduce x^5?
is it simply x^3(x^2)? but then how do you get rid of the x^3

I have y"+y=t , y(0)=1, y'=0
After Laplace transformation a got:
(S^3+1)/(S^2(S^2+1))
After I made a partial fraction expansion
(S^3+1)/(S^2(S^2+1))=a1/S^2+a2/S+a3/(S^2+1) (1)
It comes to a system where
a2=1
a1+a3=0 (2)
a2=0
a1=1
Here I am getting confused...
Hey eveyone,
trying to determine the partial fraction decomposition of:
(22x^2+60x+58)
(s+1)(x^2+4x+5)^2
I got values for my unknowns A, B, C, D,E are:
A=5
B=-1777/29
C=-6143/29
D=-570/29
E=840/29
If anyone out there can double check these for me.
what are alternative ways to do partial fraction?
other than the normal method of mulplying the whole term over and comparing coefficient which is super headache method
i heard of "cover-up method", gets the answer real quick
anyone have details to this?
hey,
I am having trouble with the following...

hello, i have the Intergal ∫(5x^2-3x+1)/((x^2+1)(x-2)) dx

Use partial fraction decompostion to find:
\int_{a}^{b} \frac{2x-1}{x^2(3x+1)(x^2 + 1)}
is this partial fraction set up correct?
\frac{A}{3x +1} + \frac{Bx + C}{x^2 +1} + \frac{Dx + E}{x^2} = 2x - 1
If this is correct i can solve the integral.
Did I do this right? I'm relying on a formula the teacher gave us in class, without quite understanding it intuitively. So I'm just rewriting the formula to solve for my unknown and plugging in numbers.

What fraction of light is reflected from the air water interface? i.e. How intense is your reflection from a lake?
since the reflection coefficient is R = (\frac{n_{2} - n_{1}}{n_{1} + n_{2}})^2

Hi,
Usually for question like 1/(e^x) I can get rid of the fraction by writing it as e^-x. FOr a question like (e^x+1)/e^x how do I do this? It simplifies down to e^-x+1 but I don't get how to do it.
thanks
hi everyone
i have a proplem with this excercise:
f(t)= (t+1)/(t^2 + 8t + 16)
Here what i started:
(t+1)/(t^2 + 8t + 16) = (t+1)/(t+4)^2
(t+1)/(t+4)^2 = K1/(t+4) + K2/(t+4)^2
i am stuck from here, anyone please help me, thanks first
Hey guys,
I'm working on this project for my research and I am having trouble reducing a fraction. The fraction is:
(bc-ab) / (a^3 - ac^2 - 2ab^2 + 2b^2c)
I am almost positive that I can end up with only a (b) on top but I am not sure how. I had an idea:
(b(c-a)) / (a(a^2-c^2) -...

I need to find the partial fraction expansion of the integrand z/[(z-2i)(z+i)]
Just doing 1/(z-2i) + 1/(z+i) results in (2z-i)/(z-2i)(z+i).
It seems easy, but I can't figure out what to multiply by to get the correct numerator.
As part of finding the integral of z/(z^2 -1), I'm stuck on getting the partial fraction for it. 1/2 [(1/(z-1) - 1/(z+1)] gives 1/(z^2-1). What should I do to get the z in the numerator. Any hints welcome.

Would someone be kind enough to show the working for expressing the following in partial fractions:
\frac{x^2}{(x-1)(x+1)}
I believe the answer is
\frac{x^2}{(x-1)(x+1)} \equiv 1 + \frac{1}{2(x-1)} - \frac{1}{2(x+1)}

I tried flipping the variables with negative exponents to the numerator and denominator, but then had no idea what to do next :frown:

I can't figure this one out. I've tried everything. I tried splitting the fraction into two, applying a log to each side, factoring the top, dividing by x2n, and Lhopitals rule doesn't apply and wouldn't help if it did. Any ideas?
I have been doing revision on integration lately, and came across a question that need to resolve (1+u2)/(1+u4) in partial fraction before I can proceed.
