AI Thread Summary
A user on the forum seeks help in recalling a specific quote related to the wonder of magnetism, attributed to a founding father of quantum mechanics. The quote is remembered as expressing that anyone who is not amazed by the sight of two magnets attracting each other does not grasp the significance of the phenomenon. Other users contribute similar quotes from Niels Bohr, emphasizing the profound nature of quantum mechanics, but none match the exact wording or focus on magnetism that the original poster is looking for. The discussion highlights the challenge of pinpointing specific quotes in the context of quantum mechanics and the fascination with its principles.

Hello all. I recently stumbled onto this forum, and I'm so glad I did.

I'm hoping one of you can help me remember a quote I read years ago, I think it was by one of the founding fathers of quantum mechanics. As near as I can remember, it read something like "anyone who is not astounded by seeing two magnets leap together simply doesn't understand the significance of what they are seeing". Any help will be much appreciated.

Peace.

I found some on this page :

"If quantum mechanics hasn't profoundly shocked you, you haven't understood it yet." - Niels Bohr

I found this:

"Anyone who says that they can contemplate quantum mechanics without becoming dizzy has not understood the concept in the least." -- Niels Bohr

I appreciate the replies, but neither of the quotes mentioned are the one I'm trying to track down. The quote I'm looking for specifically referred to astoundment at watching two magnets leap together and the profoundly mysterious nature of magnetism and it's underlying physics.

I thought I'd give it a try thinking you might recognize the name. I'll let you know if I find out who said that.

Just ONCE, I wanted to see a post titled Status Update that was not a blatant, annoying spam post by a new member. So here it is. Today was a good day here in Northern Wisconsin. Fall colors are here, no mosquitos, no deer flies, and mild temperature, so my morning run was unusually nice. Only two meetings today, and both went well. The deer that was road killed just down the road two weeks ago is now fully decomposed, so no more smell. Somebody has a spike buck skull for their...
