In summary, "AdS not globally hyperbolic" refers to a spacetime that does not meet certain mathematical conditions required for a well-defined physical theory. It is important to study because it challenges our current understanding of the universe and has applications in areas such as quantum gravity and black hole thermodynamics. AdS not globally hyperbolic cannot be directly observed or tested, and there are currently no known real-world examples of it.

Is there an easy way to see this? can it be see via the penrose diagram? does it have anything to do with how when a stone is thrown in AdS it will alwayscome backk in finite time..

I'm not familiar with AdS spaces, but according to the Wikipedia page, it says that these spaces have closed time-like curves. Any manifold with closed time-like curves cannot be globally hyperbolic.

FAQ: Understanding AdS Global Hyperbolicity: Insights from Hawking and Ellis

1. What does "AdS not globally hyperbolic" mean?

"AdS not globally hyperbolic" refers to a spacetime that is not globally hyperbolic, which means that it does not satisfy certain mathematical conditions that are required for a well-defined physical theory.

2. Why is it important to study AdS not globally hyperbolic?

Studying AdS not globally hyperbolic is important because it can help us better understand the limitations of our current physical theories. It also has applications in areas such as quantum gravity and black hole thermodynamics.

3. What are the implications of AdS not globally hyperbolic for our understanding of the universe?

AdS not globally hyperbolic suggests that our current understanding of the universe may be incomplete or incorrect. It challenges our assumptions about the nature of spacetime and raises questions about the fundamental laws of physics.

4. Can AdS not globally hyperbolic be observed or tested?

No, AdS not globally hyperbolic cannot be directly observed or tested. It is a theoretical concept that is studied using mathematical models and thought experiments.

5. Are there any real-world examples of AdS not globally hyperbolic?

No, there are currently no known real-world examples of AdS not globally hyperbolic. It is a theoretical concept that is primarily studied in the context of theoretical physics and mathematics.
