AI Thread Summary
Application deadlines for universities are typically university-wide, especially at the undergraduate level. However, it's essential to verify specific details on the university's official website, as policies can vary. In some cases, acceptance and decline letters are also sent out simultaneously, leading to a uniform notification date, such as December 1 for Purdue University. This practice can create frustration among students awaiting their admission decisions.

Simple question, are applications deadlines usually university-wide or does it vary from department to department (or college to college)? Or does the system depend on the whole university you're looking at?

Thanks in advance.

Normally it's university wide for undergraduate level, but you should check your desired university website for they will almost always have this essential information.

It usually always is university wide.

What's even weirder is that even some acceptance/decline letters are all distributed at once; for example, you wouldn't know if you've gotten into Purdue University until December 1 or not. I'm not sure why universities do this, but it can be extremely agitating to the students waiting go an acceptance letter.

TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
