AI Thread Summary
A person with a degree in Information Technology can transition to astrophysics studies, although eligibility requirements typically include a strong background in Physics and Mathematics. Various institutes in India offer postgraduate and doctoral programs in astrophysics, but specific entry criteria may differ by institution. Prospective students should check with individual institutes for detailed requirements, as doctoral programs generally necessitate an MSc in a related field or a robust physics foundation, often accompanied by an entrance exam.

Hi there,

I'd like to know if a person who has pursued his engineering in Information Technolgy can switch line and take up furthur studies in Astro Physics? If yes, could you list the possible ways in which one can atleast kick off?

Thanks,
Smita

The eligibility for these programs may vary although most programs expect a Physics and Math background. You may have to contact individual institutes. Doctoral studies generally require an MSc degree in the subject or a very strong physics background along with an entrance exam.

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
