AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on concerns about membership benefits and the implications of being banned from the forum. A user questions whether purchasing a membership would provide any protection against being banned again and if it would facilitate communication with mentors. There is an emphasis on the emotional impact of previous bans and a desire for support from peers. However, it is made clear that buying a membership does not influence mentor decisions and that public complaints about infractions are discouraged. Users are advised to address issues privately with mentors or forum administrators to avoid further penalties.

If I pay the money and get kicked off PF again, do I get my money back? Does a membership have shielding qualities? I'll pay the money if it means I can stick around. I won't post anything too controversial, but there are some mentors I might have to PM. Would a membership help me in anyway when I tell the people who I thought were my friends that I had hoped one of them would have stuck up for me?

Are you going for some sort of record Trib?

The thing is, I don't think people realize what PF means to me and how personal and deeply I take these bannings. It really hurt me.

No, you will not be able to bribe the mentors by buying a gold membership.

Seriously, you need to stop moaning about your infraction record in public. If you have a problem, PM a mentor, or Greg. Continuing to spout about this in the public forums will result in a permanent ban. How many times do you need to be told this?

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...
Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
