SUMMARY

In Cambridge O Level examinations, it is generally acceptable to provide answers without showing step-by-step solutions unless explicitly instructed to do so. However, including the working is recommended as it allows for partial credit in case of errors. This practice is beneficial for students transitioning to university, where marks are often awarded based on the methodology used, not just the final answer. Establishing this habit early can enhance overall academic performance.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Cambridge O Level examination formats
  • Familiarity with marking schemes and partial credit policies
  • Basic problem-solving skills in mathematics or relevant subjects
  • Knowledge of academic expectations in higher education
NEXT STEPS
  • Research Cambridge O Level syllabus requirements for specific subjects
  • Learn effective methods for showing working in mathematics
  • Explore university marking criteria for various disciplines
  • Practice past O Level exam questions to improve answering techniques
USEFUL FOR

Students preparing for Cambridge O Level exams, educators guiding students in exam strategies, and individuals transitioning to university-level coursework.

Without knowing the ins and outs of the syllabus, it is usually acceptable at that level to only give answers unless the question states otherwise (i.e. says show your working), however it is good practice to include it anyway, not least because if you get it wrong but have the correct method, you will only lose the mark awarded for the answer and not get zero for the whole question.
If you go to university then some lecturers will ONLY award marks where the student has working consistent with the final answer, so it's good to get in the habit.

Thank you for your answer. I feel relieved :)
