Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the candidates for baryonic dark matter in clusters of galaxies and galaxy halos, exploring whether these candidates differ between the two environments.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about the principal candidates for baryonic dark matter in galaxy clusters and halos, seeking a simplified list.
  • Another participant asserts that baryonic dark matter has been ruled out by cosmic microwave background (CMB) observations, suggesting its effects would not have been detectable at that time.
  • A question is raised regarding whether WIMPs and MACHOs are considered principal baryonic dark matter candidates in their respective environments.
  • A clarification is made that WIMPs are classified as non-baryonic particles.
  • Several links to research papers are provided, discussing both ordinary and hidden sector baryonic dark matter models.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on the viability of baryonic dark matter, with some asserting it has been ruled out while others question the classification of WIMPs and MACHOs. The discussion remains unresolved regarding the status of baryonic dark matter candidates.

Contextual Notes

The discussion includes references to specific models and observations, but lacks consensus on the classification and existence of baryonic dark matter candidates.

Hi,
I hope someone can help me, my question is
What are the principal candidates for baryonic dark matter in clusters of galaxies
and in galaxy halos, are they different?
I just need a list for halos and clusters as it might make it simipler for me to understand

thanks in advance

Baryonic dark matter? Er, that's ruled out quite conclusively by CMB observations, as baryonic dark matter's effects couldn't have been apparent then.

Does that mean that WIMPS are not the principal baryonic dark matter in clusters of galaxies and MACHOs in galaxy halos?

WIMPS weakly interacting massive particles are none baryonic
