AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around the disappearance of the "So you want to be a physicist?" thread, which was deleted by a user named Zz. Participants express frustration over the search function's inefficiency and the invalid links provided by Google. A cached version of the thread was found, leading to a link that preserves part of the content. The conversation also reveals that there is a sister site, PhysicsPost, owned by the same individual, Greg, where some content from the deleted thread is archived. Users express a desire for Zz to repost the original thread and discuss other deleted content, including a popular Disney thread, indicating a sense of community loss. Some participants plan to archive the cached content and consider reaching out to Zz for permission. The thread highlights the importance of preserving valuable discussions and the emotional impact of lost community threads.

Where is the 'So you want to be a physicist?' thread ? I can't find it for the life of me (as a side note, the search function is pretty bad).

Physics news on Phys.org
Zz deleted it. I hope he saved a copy and will re-post it.

That's our sister site. Greg owns that one too. I'm glad it's preserved there!

Its not the whole thing though.

We have a sister site? I've been here for years now and never known this.

Bug Zz about it, see if you can persuade him to repost if he saved a complete copy. I really hope he did! :frown:

The whole thing is there, it is about half-way down. Look at the posts made at 1-31-2006

Oh, ok. Thanks. I'm going to grab that and archive it, since its just the google cache. I'm assuming of course that ZapperZ wouldn't object to that, even though he deleted the thread?

I think he'd be okay with that. You can always ask to be sure.

We need to restore the Disney Thread. Who wants the Disney Thread back? That was the the one place I could go every day that would make me smile. GD isn't as cheery anymore.

I was surprised! And Greg owns it too? See, this cannot be spoken of again, because we all thought we were special. As he says in his manual for hosting web forums, you must make every forum feel like they are his only one. It never occurred to me that physicsforums was not his only success! I mean he did have a bunch of failures that would follow us around as a little nav bar at the top of the page about two years ago..

I wonder what happened to Zz.
On the same day TKC died the Disney thread got locked. Which just happens to be on the same year that the date 6/6/6 is. This can't be good:rolleyes: ...
