AI Thread Summary
Certain ads are causing page loading issues for users, particularly with Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7. Users report that specific ads, like the Cisco Valet ad, prevent the rest of the page from loading, requiring a full refresh to resolve. This problem appears to be site-related, as it has been experienced across multiple sites. The issue seems to occur more frequently with certain ads, prompting users to identify problematic ones for further investigation. Overall, the discussion highlights a common frustration with ad-related loading problems on web pages.

Does this happen to anyone else?

I scanned the main page of this section and didn't see anything. Entering any section will cause an ad to show - every now and again certain ads won't let the rest of the page to load. I can refresh all day but if the same ad loads, I get nothing past the top ad. The only fix is a ctrl+f5 to completely refresh page and load a new ad.

Can I fix this in my settings or is it site related? I've had this problem on other sites as well. I am using windows 7 with IE8.

If you've had the problem on other sites, I'd be inclined to say it was a user issue instead of a forum issue. Does this happen very often, or is it just with a handful of ads? If the latter, then perhaps if you could let us know which ad, the matter could be looked into?

I'd say it happens the most here. In this case I am pretty sure the ad started with v. Now that I have a thread, I'll post as soon as it happens again.

I think I'm having the same problem. The multiple adds and the Shrek ad allow the page to complete loading. Cisco's Valet ad stops the page from completely loading. I'm using Internet Explorer 8 on a wireless connection.

That's the exact ad I was having trouble with.

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
