AI Thread Summary
A 15-year-old student from Nepal, currently in grade 12, expresses a desire to study physics at a prestigious college in the USA despite concerns about language skills and standardized test performance. The student has a strong background in physics and mathematics but was required to take biology instead of math. There is a focus on the challenges of the educational system in Nepal, where physics is often taught through rote memorization rather than understanding. The student is optimistic about performing well on SAT subject tests but doubts their ability to achieve average scores on the main SAT and is worried about the quality of their application essay due to language barriers. Suggestions include dedicating time to improve English skills through practice and engagement in online forums.

I am a boy from nepal. i am in my grade 12 and 15 years old. my language skills are below satisfactory but my physics is good. due to certain circumstances i was forced to take biology instead of mathematics. i am good at mathematics too . i want to study physics in my undergrad. in nepal., physics is more mugging and less understanding and i want to pursue my physics education in some great colleges of usa. do i have any chance? i know that i can bring very good marks in sat subject tests. but in main sat i don't think i can bring even average marks. and also my application essay is going to be worse as my language skills are damned. do i have any chance?

You still have a good bit of time to catch up right?

You're only 15, that means you've got 3 years to catch up!

My advice: practice english a lot. Take a hobby and find an internet forum about the hobby and start posting there (it might even be this one). Be sure to let people comment on your english. The more you post, the better your english will be. This is basically how I learned english.

Constructive criticism; every sentence in english starts with a capital letter. No exceptions.

TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
