AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on safety concerns regarding a motorized RTS roller shutter that poses a risk to children due to its insufficient obstacle detection system. The current setup allows the shutter to exert pressure on objects, which can be dangerous if children play with the remote. Suggestions for enhancing child safety include implementing a coded switch that restricts operation to authorized users and using optical or acoustic sensors to detect obstacles, particularly at lower heights. The conversation highlights the need for a reliable safety mechanism to prevent accidents while maintaining functionality. Overall, the focus is on finding effective solutions to ensure the roller shutter is child-safe.

Greetings Sir, I have a motorized RTS roller shutter (which can be controlled by both hand held remote controller Or wall switch) . The thing is when the motor detects an object, it will put its entire weight on the object and then stop (which means it will suffocate that "object"). Hence we can say that the system has an obstacle detection but its not Child Safe. The main problem is that kids play with the remote controller and below shelf shutter. Please can you suggest a solution to make it completely child safe. Thank You

I discussed this with a supplier, he suggested me to code the switch. by doing so only the person with password can operate the roller shutter.

So I want to code/ enable password to the switch and when I put the password the switch should function ON/OFF. I should be able to function it with my I-phone i.e. away from home.

Maybe replace your switch with this one?

from the link:
Master code and multiple user codes (2 per channel).

What's a roller shutter?

EDIT -- Like this? How big?

I'm accustomed to garage door photosensors that detect anything underneath the door and stop or reverse its travel..

Only way to make it child proof is to make it aware of a child in its path.
To that end something needs to look at the door opening to make sure it's clear.

A child has to stand on the floor so one could use an optical sensor close to the ground. But since a kid could get a hand under the door from the wrong side, acoustic ranging from both sides might be worth a try. Perhaps a combination ?

For decades the industry has used inexpensive optical sensors like these

Product Overview
The Chamberlain garage door opener replacement safety sensors (2-Pack) help make sure your garage remains safe. The sensors project an invisible light beam across the inside of the garage door to ensure that if anything is coming in or going out, that the door automatically reverses before hitting anything or anyone.

Hi all I have some confusion about piezoelectrical sensors combination. If i have three acoustic piezoelectrical sensors (with same receive sensitivity in dB ref V/1uPa) placed at specific distance, these sensors receive acoustic signal from a sound source placed at far field distance (Plane Wave) and from broadside. I receive output of these sensors through individual preamplifiers, add them through hardware like summer circuit adder or in software after digitization and in this way got an...
While I was rolling out a shielded cable, a though came to my mind - what happens to the current flow in the cable if there came a short between the wire and the shield in both ends of the cable? For simplicity, lets assume a 1-wire copper wire wrapped in an aluminum shield. The wire and the shield has the same cross section area. There are insulating material between them, and in both ends there is a short between them. My first thought, the total resistance of the cable would be reduced...
I am not an electrical engineering student, but a lowly apprentice electrician. I learn both on the job and also take classes for my apprenticeship. I recently wired my first transformer and I understand that the neutral and ground are bonded together in the transformer or in the service. What I don't understand is, if the neutral is a current carrying conductor, which is then bonded to the ground conductor, why does current only flow back to its source and not on the ground path...
