AI Thread Summary
For those seeking to deepen their understanding of physics after completing a high school course, "Fundamentals of Physics" by Halliday and Resnick is highly recommended, especially for those with a background in calculus. Additionally, "The Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene is praised for its engaging content and has inspired many to explore physics further. A related NOVA program based on Greene's book is also available through various streaming services, providing a visual complement to the reading material.

Hi,

I just took high school physics class last year (motion, fluids, magnetism, electricity... I hope you assume the general high school physics topics). I don't know what physics book that I should buy and read. Can anyone give me the topic that I should start working on?

Thanks,
J.

If you've done Calculus in high school then "Fundamentals of Physics" by Halliday/Resnick.

Thanks.

Just in case, can anyone else give more topics that I can study?

"The Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene is brilliant. That's what's gotten me, hook line and sinker, into physics.

There's also a NOVA program based on the book, you can find the DVDs on Amazon or Netflix, or you can stream it off of NOVA's site.

TL;DR Summary: Book after Sakurai Modern Quantum Physics I am doing a comprehensive reading of sakurai and I have solved every problem from chapters I finished on my own, I will finish the book within 2 weeks and I want to delve into qft and other particle physics related topics, not from summaries but comprehensive books, I will start a graduate program related to cern in 3 months, I alreadily knew some qft but now I want to do it, hence do a good book with good problems in it first...
