SUMMARY

The discussion centers on recommendations for circuits textbooks, specifically highlighting "Basic Engineering Circuit Analysis" by J. David Irwin, which has received poor reviews. Participants suggest alternatives such as "Fundamentals of Electric Circuits" (5th edition) by Charles K. Alexander and Matthew N. O. Sadiku, and "The Art of Electronics" by Paul Horowitz and Winfield Hill. The consensus emphasizes the value of supplementary texts for beginners to reinforce foundational concepts and enhance understanding.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic electrical engineering principles
  • Familiarity with circuit analysis techniques
  • Knowledge of textbook evaluation criteria
  • Ability to navigate academic resources and reviews
NEXT STEPS
  • Research "Fundamentals of Electric Circuits" (5th edition) by Alexander and Sadiku
  • Explore "The Art of Electronics" by Horowitz and Hill

Can anyone recommend a circuits book? And I have never taken a circuits class.
The textbook that my school is reading from is

Basic Engineering Circuit Analysis by J. David Irwin.

However the book did not get good reviews so I want to find another book.

A vote for Art of Electronics from me too.

Don't be shy of purchasing a really basic level text to supplement it. Having the basics explained in a different way and having examples on those can make the main text easier to use and more effective if you are new to it.
